Georgia lands No. 1 RB recruit Kemon Spell with seven-figure NIL deal
Five-star running back Kemon Spell chose the Bulldogs for development and NFL preparation, acknowledging other programs offered more money.
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to pay five-star running back Kemon Spell $1 million in name, image and likeness compensation during his freshman year, according to reports that surfaced on Friday — but Spell made clear the money was not the deciding factor in his commitment.
Spell, a 5-foot-9, 205-pound prospect from McKeesport High School in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, is rated the No. 1 running back and No. 6 overall recruit in the class of 2027. He is also considered the second-best recruit in the state of Pennsylvania. His commitment to Georgia makes him the highest-ranked prospect in the Bulldogs' 2027 class.

NIL landscape draws criticism from Spell himself
Despite benefiting from a seven-figure NIL package, Spell was candid about his concerns regarding how money is reshaping the recruiting landscape. "That's what is ruining the college football world," he said. "Everybody is picking the money." The comment underscores a tension that has become common in the NIL era, as top recruits navigate offers that can vary widely between programs.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was a central reason Spell chose Athens over competing programs. The Bulldogs have a storied tradition of developing elite running backs, though they have not produced a 1,000-yard rusher since D'Andre Swift. Spell will not sign until December, and Georgia will need to fend off interest from programs including the Miami Hurricanes before the deal is finalized.
If Spell signs as expected, he would arrive as one of the most heralded running back recruits in the program's recent history, with Georgia banking on its development reputation — rather than the largest NIL offer available — to close the deal.
