Chambliss throws for 336, Carneiro's walk-off FG lifts No. 9 Ole Miss past No. 24 Louisville 41-38

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lucas Carneiro's 48-yard field goal as time expired gave No. 9 Ole Miss a 41-38 win over No. 24 Louisville at Nissan Stadium on Sunday night, capping a frantic finish in which quarterback Trinidad Chambliss moved the Rebels 40 yards in the final 90 seconds without a timeout to set up the winning kick.

Chambliss finished with 336 passing yards and three touchdown passes on 21-of-36 attempts, adding nine carries for 60 yards and a rushing score for 396 total yards and four touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble in a difficult first half that left Ole Miss ahead only 10-6 at the break. Chambliss then took control in the third quarter, connecting with Deuce Alexander for a pair of 62-yard touchdown passes. Alexander ended the game with five catches for 159 yards and two scores. Chambliss also found Caleb Odom for a 35-yard touchdown and hit him for a critical 18-yard gain on third-and-6 during the game-winning drive to put Carneiro in range.

Heisman Conversation Opens Immediately

The performance against a ranked opponent on national television quickly drew Heisman attention. Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel noted on X that the Louisville matchup was the only ranked clash of Week 1, while former player Emmanuel Acho called Chambliss the early Heisman favorite. Former defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko credited Chambliss' velocity, pocket awareness, and mobility, and Robert Griffin III pointed to Chambliss' clutch throwing under pressure as the measure NFL evaluators should focus on as they project him toward the 2027 draft — where questions about his size (listed at 6-foot-1) and age (24, in his sixth college season) could complicate his standing.

Louisville quarterback Lincoln Kienholz put up 376 total yards and three touchdowns without an interception, keeping the Cardinals competitive throughout. Ole Miss coach Pete Golding acknowledged the defense surrendered nine plays of 25 or more yards and credited Louisville for its physicality in the trenches. Golding said the outcome — as messy as it was — may prove useful preparation for what comes next: No. 11 LSU visits Oxford on Sept. 19, 13 days after former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin guided the Tigers to a 51-10 dismantling of Clemson on Saturday.
